We're returning to Croptec, the essential technical event for arable and mixed farmers, in Peterborough on 29th and 30th November 2016. Croptec is FREE for pre-registered farmers, agronomists and advisors.
With our increasingly impressive portfolio of agricultural varieties, we'll be returning to Croptec this year to showcase our high performing Winter Wheat, Winter Oilseed Rape and Hybrid Rye varieties. Technical experts, plant breeders and crop managers will be available on the stand to discuss each variety in detail and offer advice about the best options for different growing conditions and individual circumstances.
Over the last few years, Elsoms Seeds has made a prominent return to the agricultural market with the success of Elgar, Trinity and Skye oilseed rape varieties, and Belgrade winter wheat. Furthermore, in 2016, our hybrid rye energy crop varieties, SU PERFORMER, SU COSSANI and SU SANTINI have topped the results tables in a range of independent trials, consistently offering the highest performance currently available in hybrid rye. We also supply a full range of other energy crop species, along with the increasingly popular catch and cover crops, fodder beet and vining peas.
More exciting news from Elsoms this year is the potential of the four AHDB candidate wheat varieties, Bennington, Freiston, Dunston and Moulton, developed by Elsoms Wheat Ltd, our own wheat breeding programme. Elsoms Wheat Ltd was formed in 2013 in conjunction with Nordsaat and Saaten Union Recherche. The partnership was set up with the sole purpose of breeding wheat varieties specifically suited to UK conditions and the success of the four candidate varieties so far is a great start to the programme. We are hoping that all four candidate varieties will be fully recommended by AHDB later this year. Their performance in previous years has been outstanding and we are delighted that this has continued throughout 2016 in trials so far across the UK.
Once more, 2016 has proved a good year for Elgar, the oilseed rape variety with the highest gross output on the AHDB Recommended List in 2016/17. This success is closely followed by Skye, an AHBD Recommended winter early maturing oilseed rape variety with impressive yields and excellent polygenic disease resistance.
With catch and cover crops increasing in popularity as more farmers pay attention to better rotation strategies, and continual investment in the Anaerobic Digestion Industry with the resulting increase in demand for energy crops, there are plenty of new opportunities for farmers to investigate. Our links with Saaten Union mean that we are well ahead of the game and able to offer expert advice about any aspect of the agricultural market. Please visit the Croptec registration page to register for free entry to the event.
